The judge staff for Pro Tour Amsterdam have asked be to send along this "Pro Tour Amsterdam Primer": Pro Players' Primer - Amsterdam edition Hello there, and congratulations on qualifying for PT Amsterdam. This is a quick guide covering some tips on how to have a better tournament experience. It's divided up into 3 sections, covering rules, play situations, and general hints. The judge team wish you the best of luck, and hope you have a great weekend. New Play/Draw Rule (only applies to the Top

As a test at this Pro Tour, the following alternate Play/Draw rule will be used in the Top 8:. For the first game of each match in the Top 8, the player that finished higher in the Swiss rounds chooses either to play first or to play second. For subsequent games in each Top 8 match, the usual Play/Draw rule applies (loser of the previous game decides whether to play first in the next game.) Rules FAQ. Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle and "bounce"; if Valakut and multiple Mountains enter the battlefield at the same time (e.g., Scapeshift), Valakut will trigger for each Mountain. When any of those triggers resolve, if there are at least 5 other Mountains on the battlefield, that trigger will resolve and deal damage. If a Mountain is "bounced" in response to several triggers, that Mountain's instance of the Valakut trigger may still do damage - but the other triggers won't see the Mountain that was bounced, and might not count 5 other Mountains.. Graveyards are kept in one face-up pile. Separating a graveyard into different piles is not acceptable.. Legendary lands with Magus of the Moon on the battlefield are still Legendary and retain their name, thus may be affected by the Legend State-Based Action.. Turning morphed creatures face up is a special action: it does not use the stack, it can't be responded to, and it can even happen when a split second card is on the stack.. Frost Titan's trigger has a choice made by your opponent; you don't assume they forgot, you remind them of their choice before you resolve that trigger.. Conflagrate may be cast with X=0 (e.g., to increase Storm count); if so, it will have zero targets. Common Play Situations . If you forget an optional Ally trigger (such as putting a +1/+1 counter on an Ally, or mentioning the +1/+0 from Akoum Battlesinger), then you will get no penalty, but you won't get the bonus either.. You don't have to remind your opponent of an optional trigger, but if he mentions it, you should acknowledge that you've heard him.. The same applies for Bloodghast, Quests, Lotus Cobra, and many other cards with a 'may' in the trigger.. If a card with rebound resolves, and you put it in your graveyard, you'll be given a Warning. It has to be exiled.. It's OK to put a reminder on top of your deck, as long as that reminder isn't an actual card and it doesn't hide your library. A token or other object is a handy way to remind you to pay for a Pact, for example.. If the top card of your library is face up for some reason (e.g., Oracle of Mul Daya):o Make sure to turn it face down again if the Oracle leaves the battlefield.o Make sure to remember to reveal after you shuffle.o If you draw multiple cards, you have to reveal each one.General Hints. If you're unsure about anything, please call a judge. It's why we're there.. If you're calling a judge, you'll find you get help more promptly if you shout 'JUDGE' and leave your hand in the air until a judge arrives, or at least indicates to you that he's coming.. There's nothing wrong with disagreeing with a judge, and you can always appeal any ruling to the Head Judge. However, please remain polite, and don't interrupt. You'll find you enjoy the rest of the day more if you don't get too stressed about one issue.. Arriving on time for your match is an important skill at the PT, since we give Game Losses for tardiness instantly. We'll always announce the time until the start of the next round when pairings go up. Pro Tip: Check the name of your opponent on the Pairings, so that you can be doubly certain you're at the correct table.. Don't forget, you'll be playing against people from all around the world. Your opponent may not always understand you - try to be clear, precise, and seek acknowledgement. It saves arguments later.. Play with new, matching sleeves. You'll save yourself a world of heartbreak from us. Pro tip: Before sleeving a deck, shuffle it. Also, shuffle the sleeves. Sometimes sleeves have little manufacturing issues that run through them - if both the deck and the sleeves are random, then this won't be such a problem for you. Also, bring plenty of spares. You'll hopefully be playing a lot of competitive magic, and that's as stressful for your sleeves as it is for you.. Bring dice, counters, and/or token cards. It makes it a lot easier to keep track of counters if they're not prone to blowing away every time someone nearby stands up.. Use pen and paper to keep track of your life. Without this, there's no way to trace back through the game if something goes wrong.. Please be polite to other players and tournament officials. You'll enjoy the day a lot more if you are. If you show respect, you'll get it back.. Always shuffle your deck, and your opponents, thoroughly. Pile shuffling, while helpful, doesn't actually randomize a deck, so always follow it with a number of box or riffle shuffles.. And please, please, don't cheat.
